They have years of experience in the pub trade having previously run The Crawford Arms at Red Rock and The Gerrard Arms in Aspull.
The Anvil started life as the All Saints Tavern – taking its name from the nearby Wigan Parish Church, later becoming “Riley’s Bar” as part of The Grand Hotel.
In 2000, following a full refurbishment, Ian & Donna opened the doors of the “The Anvil”, since when the large selection of resident and guest beers has attracted many a discerning drinker, The Anvil having earned numerous awards from CAMRA – note the array of certificates and The Anvil is now probably Wigan’s most popular Real Ale Pub.
The pub, via six hand pulls sells a regular changing range of AllGates’ and guest beers, plus lagers (Fosters, Stella & Carling), Hydes Black, Guinness and Strongbow, plus traditional Gwynt Y Ddraig cider on draught. All Gates’ Mild is always available and draught continental and bottled beers are also stocked.
There is a large beer garden to the rear and a heated covered smoking area.
