OUR PERMANENT BEERS

ALL BLACK 3.6%

Smooth Dark Mild "Hints of chocolate and caramel, with light antipodean hop flavours"

Originally brewed as the first of our New Zealand Hops series in April 2010 as Maori Dark Mild, it proved so popular it replaced our longstanding core beer, Mild at Heart in June 2010.

A traditional dark Mild, with hints of chocolate and caramel with the slight hoppy finish of the Mild style but with a twist from the New Zealand grown Pacific Jade and Pacifica hops.

OSTARA 3.6%

Blonde Ale "A blonde ale, low gravity, very pale; easy drinking"

Brewed with Maris Otter Pale Ale malt and a bit of wheat; loads of fruity hop flavours from a medley of traditional and modern hops; Fuggles, Styrian Goldings and Bramling Cross among others. But it is the addition of the wonderful Citra hop that really brings this beer to the fore. Not as bitter as our other pale beers.

CALIFORNIA 3.8%

Golden Ale "A well balanced golden coloured ale, easy drinking and refreshing"

Named after a local coal mine, California is an extremely clean drinking golden coloured ale with a zesty and fruity aroma. Brewed with gently-kilned malts and an aromatic blend of American hops, this 3.8% beer has exceptional poise. Its distinct hop flavour leads to a refreshing and dry finish.

NAPOLEON'S RETREAT 3.9%

Classic British Bitter "A traditional chestnut coloured easy drinking bitter"

Named after Mike Harding's (the 'Rochdale Cowboy') poem; Napoleon’s Retreat from Wigan. When asked if he minded us using the name, Mike quickly responded; 'no feel free, I need all the publicity I can get'. So we did! The poem is shown in full at Mike's website.

Brewed in the traditional North West style it is a chestnut, easy drinking full flavoured bitter which is well rounded with some residual sweetness with tastes of fruit and vanilla balanced with a resinous hop character. A very popular beer that deserves to to be savoured!

PRETORIA 3.9%

Golden Ale "refreshing golden ale, with distinctive citrus aromas"

Pretoria was originally brewed as one of our award winning 'Film Themed' Beers in 2008, as 'Saving a Pint for Ryan' and renamed after a local coal mine, where in 1910, 344 miners lost their lives in the worst ever Lancashire pit disaster.

It is a perfectly clean yellow gold ale with big assertive lemon sherbet hops; juicy but dry and bitter with just a pinch of sourness. There follows an excellent faint taste of pale malt in the finish to add a touch of balancing sweetness to all the bitter lemon.

CITRA 4.2%

American Pale Ale "A single hopped pale ale with crazy citrus aromas"

Originally brewed in June 2010 as the first brew in a series of occasional 'one hop' beers, using more unusual hop varieties. We had first heard about Citra in 2009, had our first whiff of it in early 2010 and resolved immediately we just had to have some.

It’s just this incredible hop delivers a massive tropical fruit salad of aromas and could easily fool one into thinking you are drinking tropical fruit juice, ala Um Bongo. The aromas and flavours are simply citrus, peach, apricot, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, melon, gooseberry, lychee, pineapple, tangerine, mango, papaya and all tropical fruit flavours and aromas.
